Can a bird have 'facial hair'? Generated some stylized 'facial feathers' that replicated military-esque beards and mustaches. Ended up with going #1 and worked on blending it in with other feathers.

Deciding on what he wears (if he wears anything) on his legs. Personally loved the badger-spats but we felt that it wouldn't stand out from his feathers well enough.

Wing design & notes for the modeling stage.
Originally proposed that the last couple of feathers be partially separated so he could 'point' with them (they wouldn't be able to bend), but this idea got scratched for the final model.

Redwall: Captain Snow Concept

Captain Snow of Mossflower Woods, first appeared in Brian Jacques' book "Redwall."

Designing him was a hoot of a time. He was a fun and unique challenge. It was my first time designing a bird for 3D development. He was our first character that we were tackling that was in the books. We wanted to balance how 'civilized' he appeared, given he has a military-type background. We needed to make him feel like he could be the owl of the books.

There were technical challenges to design for too. We wanted to have his head and his eyes appear owl-like, which meant planning for animations where he could turn his head around backwards and planning out how his wings could possibly act like giant arms for gesturing (sadly this was cut). It was all a lot of fun to work on, and I think my favorite part was designing the facial feathers to reflect a mustache and goatee.

Captain Snow appears in "The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout Act 2" by Soma Games, playable on Steam.
